Gil Knops is a partner at eMotio.law and has been a member of the Brussels Bar since 2009.

Gil specialises in dispute resolution (including arbitration and mediation) and has developed an expertise in commercial law and in corporate law (M&A and shareholders’ agreements):

• he acts in major judicial and arbitration proceedings
• he advises clients on complex matters
• he assists his clients in various transactions, both as negotiator and litigator

Gil is a mediator accredited by the Federal Commission for Mediation in civil and commercial matters and trained in social mediation. He is one of the most renowned commercial mediators of his generation in Belgium.

Gil also gives regularly trainings:

• as a trainer at the Institute of Communication, Gil conducts seminars for lawyers in mediation, communication, principled negotiation and preparation of pleadings
• Gil is also a lecturer in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) at the Brussels Bar for the Certificat d’aptitude à la profession d’avocat (CAPA) and in conflict management at the Ecole Régionale d’Administration Publique (ERAP) of Brussels
• Gil has also been a teaching assistant at the University of Brussels (ULB) for the introductory course in civil law (2011-2022)

Gil is the author of several publications and regularly lectures on mediation.

He graduated from the University of Brussels (ULB) in 2007. He also holds a postgraduate Master’s degree in Economic Law from the University of Brussels (ULB) obtained in 2008.
